The scariest SEO myth: “You will rank with paid ads!”
Despite being dunked time and time again, SEO myths and SEO misconceptions are still out there in the digital world haunting and terrifying SEOs, websites and companies alike! One of the biggest misconceptions that our Dallas SEO consultants hear on a regular basis is in regards to paid advertising on search engines such as Google.
We stopped, we looked at each other, and in disbelief, we had to quickly redirect that answer to explain the truth. It was terrifying and downright ghoulish!

Why this is still such a common SEO myth and misconception is beyond our Dallas SEO Consultants, but for what it is worth, this is nothing more than a myth.
What is Search Engine Marketing (SEM)?
Paid advertising on search engines has many names, but the most common are Search Engine Marketing and Pay-Per-Click (PPC) ads. These are advertisements that run for a duration of time on search engines based on common SEO strategies such as keyword research, target audience research and competitor analysis.
SEM ads are one of the most commonly used types of digital advertising because these advertisements can produce fast results that companies are typically searching for with organic SEO. However, the thing is, these advertisements are exactly what a company purchases, an advertisement.
Without proper on-page and off-page SEO strategies in place, a company will never rank in search engines with SEM strategies. This SEO myth and SEO misconception are so prevalent because when a landing page is published for a paid advertisement, the page itself is optimized with organic search strategies! But, this does not mean that this will help with ranking because this page is more than likely going away once the ad is over.
It should go away once the advertisement is done to follow proper advertising guidelines!
However, a proper SEM strategy could somehow have an indirect impact on organic SEO in a different way. This can be done with backlinking strategies. The right type of marketing campaign can produce a buzz in the market or industry which can result in digital newspapers and magazines picking up on your products and/or services. In return, this helps with credibility and gets some natural backlinks to your website!
